All Girl by Design

Girls thrive in an all-girls environment. According to research, students from all girls schools are more likely to rate themselves in the top 10 percent in math, are more likely to go to college to prepare for grad school, and are more likely to see themselves in leadership positions.

Just because we are all girl doesn’t mean we’re all the same. ag娱乐app’s student base is diverse – our students come from 51 zip codes and 35 local school districts, and students of color make up 38 percent of our student body. We embrace and celebrate our differences.

Columbus School for Girls Myths

Uniforms make us uniform.

In fact, the effect is quite the opposite. When girls aren’t worried about how they look or what to wear, they can focus on what’s important: who they really are.

The commute is too long.

Although the majority of our girls can take a bus, some parents drive quite a distance. Several come from as far away as Mechanicsburg, Lancaster, and Newark. They don’t mind, however, because they believe that the education their daughters are getting is worth a little time in the car. In fact, car time becomes bonding time, and those parents wouldn’t give up a single minute.

We don’t know boys.

Of course ag娱乐app girls talk to boys. Not only do they see them in places like the neighborhood, at parties, and at the movies, but ag娱乐app sponsors co-ed events as well, like dances, block parties, and theater productions. The only place we don’t talk to boys is in class, where we teach girls the value of their own voice. Since ag娱乐app girls are empowered to use that voice with confidence, they have healthier interactions with boys wherever they see them.

Girls here are sheltered from the real world.

There’s a difference between nurturing (which we do) and babying (which we don’t). We create a safe environment for girls to try new things and find out who they are. Faculty and staff know each girl as an individual and understand the best ways to bring out the best in her. Girls sharpen their skills and build their confidence. Really, it’s the best possible preparation you can get to tackle the real world head on.

STEM Programming

Focusing on STEM programming (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), ag娱乐app is a leader in the education of girls, and has 13 percent of its graduates studying engineering in college (compared to the national average of 1.4 percent of girls from co-ed schools).

Our girls take apart technology to explore how it works, and combine critical thinking with technical knowledge. Since 2001, ag娱乐app has participated in the FIRST Robotics Program, a program whose purpose is to bring together the nation’s leading companies and universities in a united effort to win young minds to the wonders of science and technology. ag娱乐app offer programs at all levels. FIRST currently offers over $16 million of scholarships with 25 percent of past ag娱乐app Team 677 receiving FIRST scholarship offers.

Reggio - Inspired Approach

Nature vs. Nurture? Why not both? ag娱乐app’s Program for Young Children follows a curriculum inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, an educational philosophy focused on early childhood education that encourages co-learning between teachers, students, parents, and the community. ag娱乐app’s Program for Young Children uses project work, the environment, and documentation to encompass a strong foundation for our girls to become lifelong learners.

Arts

Get creative in our theater, visual arts, and music programs! Through our working relationship with Actors' Theatre of Columbus, our girls work alongside professional actors to develop their craft. And with over an average of 30 performances a year, our girls have a chance to show off their skills to the community in our state-of-the-art Agnes Jeffrey Shedd Theater.

Summer Programs

Whether your children are artists, actors, scientists, writers, athletes, or anything in between, we welcome them to explore their many talents and interests with us! Our goal is to provide a comprehensive co-educational experience for children from Pre-K through Grade 12, in which children have opportunities to explore many of their educational and extracurricular interests. We have added new and exciting academic enrichment classes that provide opportunities for your child in areas where they may need extra support, and sports camps to develop and perfect their athletic abilities. Several credit courses are offered for students in Grades 9-12, including art, public speaking, Civics, health, and physical education classes. Come enjoy summer’s casual atmosphere in ag娱乐app’s state-of-the-art facilities. Our Summer Programs are designed to help students develop new interests and friendships in a fun, stimulating, learning-centered environment blended with challenges and adventures that offer unique, confidence-building educational experiences.
